Russian Social Survey (RSS) comparable with European Social Survey (ESS)

Russian Social Survey is academic survey of attitudes, opinions, values and behavior of Russian population in comparison with population of other European countries.

First round of RSS: 2006

Data collection: data is collected after two years. Currently the data of 7 rounds are available - 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018. The next round is scheduled for 2020-2021.

Organization of the survey: first rounds of the survey was collected within the group of European social survey and data are available in separate and cumulated format in www.europeansocialsurvey.org and www.ess-ru.ru. Since 2018 it is run as separate Russian Social Survey based on the program of European Social survey ERIC.

RSS uses the same survey program – sample design schema, questionnaire, translation process, data collection method, coding and data processing as specified in the program of European Social Survey. The data on Russia is fully comparable with ESS data from other countries.

Sample size: 2400-2500 interview in each round.

Financing: RSS is financed from different sources within Russia – Russian Foundation of Basic Research (RFBR), financial support from Highest School of Economics (HSE) and other sources.

Access to data: data is available for free download for anybody interested to use it in non-commercial purposes.

Data of Russian social survey based on ESS program. The survey is conducted by CESSI (Institute for comparative social research) in ____ (dates are specified below) by face-to-face interviews in responden’ts homes based on probability random sample of population of Russia 15 years old and over. In ___ particular round ____ interviews were conducted. The methodological specification and technical details of the survey are located in www.ess-ru.ru and www.europeansocialsurvey.org.

     Round 7 (ESS), Round 5 of RSS – December 2014-Febrary 2015, sample size of 2445  interviews

     Round 8 (ESS), Round 6 of RSS – October 2016-Jarnuary 2017, sample size of 2430 interviews

     Round 9 (ESS), Round 7 of RSS – November 2018-February 2019, sample size of 2416 interviews.
